Tarragona’s God’s Funeral have always been transparent about their altars of worship — and Salmos de Muerte is the formal liturgy: five cover versions of the bands that built their aesthetic, recorded in the second half of 2020 and co-released on vinyl by El Conjuro Records, A Sangre Fría Records, Catábasis Records, and Romantic Songs Records, with the CD edition issued by A Sangre Fría (ASF-029). The five “psalms” are as precise a declaration of influence as any band could offer: My Dying Bride’s Sear Me, Entombed’s Supposed to Rot, Katatonia’s Rainroom, Summoning’s Land of the Dead, and Bolt Thrower’s Cenotaph — five cornerstones of doom/death, Swedish death, depressive metal, atmospheric black metal, and grinding death metal respectively, filtered through God’s Funeral’s own sepulchral weight and corrosive heaviness. Four guests attended the homily: Lois of Balmog (psalm 1), Dopi of Leprophiliac (psalm 2), Alicia of Barbarian Prophecies (psalm 3), and Milton of Pazuzu (psalm 5). Recorded and mixed by the band themselves. Lineup: Abel (bass/vocals), Sergi (drums/backing vocals on psalm 4), Ibán (guitar), Juan (guitar). A covers EP that functions as both tribute and manifesto — and sounds entirely like God’s Funeral.
