Not to be confused with their Swedish death metal namesake — this Deranged is a Chilean thrash/proto-death metal force, and Through the Dark Past is the most complete physical document of their underground career assembled in one disc. Released by Thanatology Productions in December 2017, this 17-track collection covers three distinct phases: the raw original demo material (Dark Past, Destructive Judgement, Twist in Vice, Enter to Reality — all in their demo versions); the full studio album Defacing World (seven tracks of tight, punishing old-school thrash/death with that recognizable late-’80s to early-’90s South American ferocity); and four live tracks capturing the band in full assault mode. The studio material was previously remastered and released through Zombie Records with a bonus pin, and listeners who followed that edition will find everything here expanded and contextualized. The sonic DNA sits firmly in the territory where thrash transitions into death metal — the late Kreator, early Sepultura, and proto-death brutality that characterized the South American underground of that era.
