Viña del Mar’s Necroripper have spent years carving their name into Chile’s death/thrash underground with a sound rooted in profanation, death, and old-school brutality — but with Amulepe Taiñ Weichan, they did something few bands in the extreme metal world dare to attempt: they built an entire record around the Mapuche language and its warrior cosmology. The title translates roughly as “Our War Continues” — and everything about this album makes good on that declaration. Eight tracks across 37 minutes, recorded at Lion’s Roar Studios in Viña del Mar in February 2019, the album fuses the band’s trademark grinding death/thrash attack with themes drawn from Mapuche spiritual thought: ancestral combat, dream visions (Pewma), fire and power (Kütral Newen), and ancient oral tradition (Nüyün Epew). The result is ferocious, focused, and genuinely unlike anything else in Chilean metal — the aggression of the genre fully intact, but charged with an identity that is unmistakably local, ancestral, and defiant. Los viñamarinos Necroripper llevan años tallando su nombre en el underground death/thrash chileno con un sonido enraizado en la profanación, la muerte y la brutalidad old-school — pero con Amulepe Taiñ Weichan se atrevieron a algo que pocos en el mundo del metal extremo tienen el valor de intentar: construir un disco entero alrededor del mapuzungún y su cosmología guerrera. El título se traduce aproximadamente como “Nuestra Guerra Continúa” — y todo en este álbum cumple esa declaración.
