Originally from Talagante, Chile and active since 2007, Ripper have built one of the most respected reputations in the current underground thrash scene — and Sensory Stagnation, their first new material in three years following the acclaimed Experiment of Existence, makes clear why. Five tracks across roughly 20 minutes that feel denser and more rewarding than most full-length albums. The formula is unmistakable: high-speed thrash brutality rooted in early Kreator, Sodom, and Dark Angel, laced with the technical complexity and progressive ambition of Atheist, Sadus, and Watchtower — a combination that led No Clean Singing to describe it as “early Kreator being covered by Watchtower.” The bass work of Pablo Cortés is genuinely extraordinary throughout, weaving through the mix with a presence that rivals Tony Choy at his most inventive. Lyrically the EP explores trauma, dissociation, depression and hallucination — far from the usual thrash fare. Like a Sacrilege is a cover of Aberration, a band from Ripper’s own hometown of Talagante active in the 90s, and Terror Streets is a re-recording of a track from the band’s 2008 demo.
