The story since then is equal parts legend and tragedy: the band dissolved after 1986’s Beyond the Gates, and in 1989 vocalist and founder Jeff Becerra was shot during a robbery and left in a wheelchair — an event that seemed to seal the band’s fate forever. Yet Becerra’s spirit and voice proved indestructible. After reforming the band for live shows and a series of smaller releases, Revelations of Oblivion arrived in May 2019 through Nuclear Blast — the band’s first full-length in 33 years — and it exceeded every expectation.
