From Puerto Montt — deep in the Los Lagos region, near Patagonia — come Hallux Valgus, one of the most geographically isolated and genuinely underground acts in the Chilean death metal scene. Founded in 2013 by Lt. Nekroshit and Horrorhammer, the band spent years refining their vision before finally releasing this debut EP through Ex Nihilo Music, an independent extreme metal label also based in Puerto Montt. Death Will Prevail is six hymns of old-school death metal charged with violence, putrefaction, and a thick undercurrent of crust and punk DNA — recorded between 2014 and 2016 across Puerto Montt and Santiago. The sound is raw, honest, and unapologetically rooted in the genre’s first decade: Autopsy’s swampy heaviness, Death Strike’s primitive aggression, Repulsion’s grind-soaked urgency, and the crusty abrasion of Amebix and G.B.H. all flow through these tracks with full conviction.
