One of brutal death metal’s most enduring second albums, and the record that cemented Deeds of Flesh’s place among the genre’s foundational acts. Inbreeding the Anthropophagi arrived in 1998 through Displeased Records, produced by the band’s own Erik Lindmark, and immediately established a reputation for compositional unpredictability and technical ferocity that set it apart from the American brutal death template of the time. The album opens with a sample by philosopher Alan Watts before detonating into eight tracks of savage, labyrinthine death metal: End of All, Feeding Time, the title track Inbreeding the Anthropophagi, Infecting them with Falsehood, Canvas of Flesh, Ritual of Battle, Fly Shrine, and the closing Gradually Melted — all built around the extraordinary quality of Lindmark’s riff architecture, which combines Suffocation’s density with Incantation’s dissonant darkness into something entirely its own. The lyrical concept revolves around the Scottish legend of Sawney Bean — a sixteenth-century cave-dwelling cannibal clan who preyed on travellers for decades — making the album as conceptually coherent as it is sonically devastating. Later reissued by Unique Leader Records (the label co-founded by Lindmark) and most recently by Osmose Productions; this Canometal Records Chilean edition brought a genuine underground classic to the regional scene. Essential.

Imprescindible.
