Puerto Montt’s Sepulcrum arrived in 2020 with one of the more ferocious debut statements to emerge from southern Chile’s underground in recent years. Corpse Dividing Holes is five tracks of raw, primitive death metal with its roots firmly planted in the American school of the late eighties and early nineties — Morbid Angel, Deicide, Death, Morta Skuld, Pestilence — delivered with the kind of garage-floor urgency that no amount of studio polish could manufacture. The four originals — Abruption, Stiff Stagnation, Corpse Dividing Holes, and Into Slumber Exclamation — showcase a band that already understands the fundamentals: demonic vocal depth, riffs that drag along the same dark paths as Hell Awaits-era Slayer, and a deliberately filthy sound that feels live and physical. They close with a cover of Morbid Angel’s Lord of All Fevers and Plagues, a fitting declaration of their primary allegiance. Originally issued on cassette in a limited run of 100 copies (70 black / 30 purple) through Burning Coffin Recs, and subsequently on CD via Canometal Records.
