Few bands can claim to have been present at the absolute birth of Chilean death metal. Sadism can. Founded in 1988 by J.P. Two Decades of Perpetual Souls is their definitive retrospective statement: nine tracks recorded at Sade Studios in February 2010, re-recording the material from their two foundational demos (Perdition of Souls, 1989, and From the Perpetual Dark, 1991) alongside Inhumation from the Darkside EP (1993) and the utterly unreleased Gory Dreams — a track composed in mid-1988 that predates the demos entirely and had never before been heard outside the band’s inner circle. The result is a crushingly heavy, surgically clean re-examination of material that helped define South American death metal’s earliest vocabulary, played with two decades of accumulated force.
